My Largest Orange Painting Yet
As you've probably noticed, I am mesmerized by the beauty of oranges. In particular, I love their overlapping textures--pebbly rind over fluffy pith over silky flesh. I used to always paint oranges life-sized, but I've often wondered, "What would these textures look like BIGGER?"
To create my biggest orange painting yet, I scaled EVERYTHING bigger--bigger brushes, bigger strokes, and even coarser canvas for bigger texture! Now, the textures can be enjoyed both up-close AND far away.
Before creating this big one, I did a much smaller version. See the HUGE SIZE DIFFERENCE below:
6in x 6in version with larger work in-progress
My smaller paintings add beauty to table tops and modest wall spaces, but this larger orange painting is big enough to be the focal point of an entire room!

This painting is loaded with impressionistic color and expressive brushwork. I used layer upon layer of paint to depict the textured layers of the orange. The warm glow above the snowy whites reminds me of the Christmas star. It's a true feast for the eyes!
